Day Nine of Noirvember: Quote of the Day
“Young woman, either you have been raised in some incredibly rustic community, where good manners are unknown, or you suffer from the common feminine delusion that the mere fact of being a woman exempts you from the rules of civilized conduct. Or possibly both.”
— Clifton Webb in Laura (1944)
Join me tomorrow for Day Ten of Noirvember!
Oh boy- what an interesting line from “Laura” ! 🙂
Wasn’t it? So biting! No wonder Gene looks like that! LOL
🙂 Yeah- boy, was he good at that snob thing.
Perfection!
Clifton Webb had many memorable witticisms in “Laura”. Nice post!
Thank you, Amy! His lines were great — and perfectly delivered.
Nobody could deliver lines like Clifton could.
You got that right. He was the best.
Waldo sure loves to hear himself talk!
Doesn’t he, though? (Me, too. LOL)
“In my case, self absorption is completely justified. I have never discovered any other subject quite so worthy of my attention.” Oh, that wonderful Waldo Lydecker! One of my all time favorite characters. And how I wish that things had worked out so that he could have gone on to star in his own film so we could hear more of him. He always makes me smile.
Love this line, too, Blakeney! He was so good, in whatever he was in.
I can just hear Waldo Lydecker saying that, with withering displeasure. Clifton Webb absolutely stole that film.
He sure did, Ruth — ever single scene.
