Quotes in Pre-Code: The Office Wife (1930)

In this first-rate pre-Code feature, Dorothy Mackaill stars as Anne Murdock, a typist who is elevated to the position of personal secretary to the company head, Lawrence Fellows, played by Lewis Stone. On her first day of the gig, Anne is summoned by her former supervisor, J.P. McGowan (Hobart Bosworth) to the inner sanctum of her new boss, and this typical pre-Code exchange ensues:

J.P. McGowan:  Miss Murdoch — he wants you.

Anne:  Oh! (Anne purrs this single word in a tone that is practically exploding with innuendo, as she smiles in pleasurable anticipation and gives her curls a knowing pat.)

J.P. Gowan:  For . . . dictation purposes.

Anne finds out that her boss wants her . . . but not THAT way!
